Last week, it was revealed that a prominent cybercrime service had been hacked, exposing its inner workings and the identity of its proprietor, known as “Fearless.” This service, called SWAT USA Drops, is based in Russia and recruits people in the United States to reship packages of stolen electronics purchased with stolen credit cards. Recent posts on a Russian-language cybercrime forum called Verified suggest that Fearless, who first registered on the forum in 2013, may have previously operated under the alias “Apathyp.” This connection is supported by evidence that both accounts logged in from the same device and used the same instant messenger address. Further research using breach intelligence services has linked Apathyp/Fearless to an individual named Ivan Sherban from Russia. However, Sherban has not responded to requests for comment.
