Three Earth plants are preparing to set up a new home on the moon as part of the LEAF project led by NASA. The mustard cress, brassica, and duckweed will be placed on the lunar surface during the Artemis III mission in 2026. The plants will face challenges such as lunar radiation and gravity, but the experiment aims to understand how plants can grow in space to support future long-term human missions. If successful, these small plants could pave the way for lunar gardens and farms. The experiment will also shed light on how plants and other organisms respond to partial gravity and intense lunar radiation.
