WinGPT is an AI assistant for Windows 3.1 that can help users with research queries, provide entertainment, and assist productively. It is built with C using the standard Windows API and connects to the OpenAI API server natively with TLS 1.3, ensuring a secure implementation. Building the UI for WinGPT was challenging due to the primitive UI building capabilities with Windows 3.1, which limited the set of standard controls available for use. Due to memory limitations of Windows 3.1 machines, the JSON responses from the OpenAI API were optimized to reduce response size. WinGPT is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) v2 and can work on any 16-bit or 32-bit version of Windows post-Windows 3.1.
