Work at the Mill Or, the Story of Digital Equipment Corporation

Kenneth Harry Olsen, born in 1926, was a voracious reader with a hungry mind, experimenting with electronics despite budget constraints. His Navy experience during WWII led to learning electronics in various locations. He graduated from MIT and built the transistorized computer TX-0 with his team. The success of TX-0 inspired the birth of Digital Equipment Corporation with American Research and Development Corporation’s $70,000 backing. DEC’s innovative products like the PDP-1 and PDP-4 revolutionized interactive computing, with PDP-1 being a predecessor to personal computers. DEC’s commitment to quality and innovation propelled its success, marking Ken Olsen as a pioneer in the computer industry.
