During a recent LHC beam operation, a radiofrequency interlock caused an electrical perturbation that led to the beams being dumped after only 9 minutes in collision. Following this, several superconducting magnets, including the inner triplet magnets crucial for the LHCb experiment, lost their superconducting state due to a quench. While this is not an uncommon occurrence, it can sometimes lead to damage. In this particular case, a leak appeared between the cryogenic circuit and the insulation vacuum, causing the cryostat to cool down and freeze on the outside. Investigations are underway to repair the leak, but it is expected to impact the LHC schedule for several weeks.
