Auschwitz museum criticizes use of death camp in politics

Poland’s ruling party, Law and Justice, has been criticized over its use of images of Auschwitz to discourage participation in an anti-government march. The state-run memorial museum has criticized the campaign, deploring the “instrumentalization of the tragedy” of the 1.1 million people murdered at the site, while Polish journalists claim the ads are “disgusting”. The ad campaign follows anti-government protests over a law passed by Law and Justice’s lawmakers and signed by President Duda which critics argue is anti-democratic. They believe the legislation could be used ahead of fall elections to target opponents.
