Product Lessons from Dan Robinson (Ex-CTO of Heap)

At Assembled, culture of continuous learning is greatly appreciated. Dan Robinson, former CTO at Heap, was recently invited to a dinner discussion to share his wisdom on well-functioning businesses. Dan suggests that the most significant aspect for a successful business is execution. You should talk to your users with intellectual honesty and taste your own soup, or rather product in order to identify bad execution. Listening to users is also critical, but asking leading questions can bias users; instead, ask them how they would articulate the value of your product and make them engaged with what you offer. Ultimately, as a startup you have to build something valuable enough for people to pay money for, which, though a basic observation, is often overlooked.
