The computer graphics industry got started at the university of Utah

Computer graphics and visualization techniques have been recognized with an IEEE milestone in the US. In a ceremony held at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City), IEEE Life Member Ivan E. Sutherland, and David Evans, who founded Evans and Sutherland in 1968, were celebrated for their contribution and development of many of the technologies used by today’s animators and in many modern movies. During their time at the university, Sutherland and Evans developed the first graphics devices with a processing unit, as well as computer-based simulation systems used for training and in military simulations. They also welcomed doctoral students from the university to work on their research projects at the company, including Henri Gouraud, who in 1971 developed an algorithm to simulate the differing effects of light and color across the surface of an object.
