FreeBSD Experimenting with a Port of Nvidia’s Linux Open DRM Kernel Driver

The developers of FreeBSD are looking into using an open-source NVIDIA kernel driver called nvidia-drm.ko as a Direct Rendering Manager driver. This driver, which is separate from Nouveau, allows for better integration with the kernel and provides an alternative to the NVIDIA proprietary driver. NVIDIA graphics on FreeBSD have traditionally been the best due to the quality of the NVIDIA Linux driver stack. While support for Intel and AMD Radeon graphics has improved over the years, NVIDIA still tends to be the preferred choice for FreeBSD systems. The unofficial nvidia-drm-kmod driver has the potential to further enhance the FreeBSD experience, including better Wayland support.
